the only SUPER Phone & comparison to Verizon's Motorola Droid & HTC Incredible
I almost cried when I returned the to Verizon due to connectivity problems but now I am glad I ended up with the ! This Nexus One hasn't failed me yet; it has strong 3G connectivity with T-Mobile and strong Edge connectivity with AT&T. The phone is gorgeous (AMOLED display - Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) and amazingly fast (snapdragon processor) and fun (Android 2.1 interface enhancements)!I love the droid platform that you can customize and aren't stuck with the rigid iPhone experience.I love Google's turn by turn navigation which usually works for me by voice command...

The Nexus One: Don't Believe the Hype
I know, I know. I gave this product 5 stars yet my review title seems to be quite a bit contradictory, but theres plenty of reasons why. First and foremost, I have dreamed of this product ever since I got into the PDA game in 1999 with my Palm IIIc. Since then, I've used a veritable warehouse of different units, anything ranging from the aforementioned Palm IIIc to pretty much any Android handset out there that offers service in a GSM flavor to this point. I purchased the Nexus One on day one, and received it over night, so I am by far one of the earliest adopters in the market. As you can imagine, my expectations are quite high for an all-in-one PDA, and even though my title may be emitting a bad taste in my mouth, I can assure you thats not the case. With PDA's/Smartphones bridging the gap between our Laptop's/PC's, the functionality all needs to be there to really be a full on mobile replacement. With the insurmountable amount of internet discussion that this device...

This is my first smartphone and I think it's great
I've had the Google Nexus One for about three or four days now. I got the unlocked version direct from Google for $530, so I can't imagine why anyone would pay the $630 or more other sellers are asking for. Switching my number over to T-Mobile was easy, although it took about a day for the transfer to be finalized, which I'm blaming on Sprint due to my experience with their customer service in the past. And since I have the unlocked phone I was able to get the Even More Plus plan with 500 minutes, unlimited texting and "unlimited" data for $59.99 a month, so I'll be saving a _lot_ of money in the long run compared to the iPhone on AT&T or the Droid on Verizon. So far the phone seems very fast and I've already downloaded several apps. Some people have been making a big deal about the fact that the app space is limited to the internal 512 MB flash drive, unlike the iPhone which can save app data to the main drive. I've installed 9 apps so far, the largest is 3.59MB and the smallest is...

Product Description

The Google Nexus One was rumored to be a device that would revolutionize the overwhelming stronghold mobile operators have over their clients by totally bypassing carrier-voice calls and enabling users to make VoIP only calls thus freeing consumers from mobile operator s "money-grabbing" constraints. The Nexus One is built by HTC with a lot of input from Google and it runs Android 2.1. The reported changes are a touch of 3D in the app tray, a bit of WebOS gadgetry with a preview of all homescreen pages done card-style. Preloaded are Google Navigation (in the US) and the new Google Goggles, which identifies objects by using the camera and brings up relevant information. The device is not locked ad works on T-Mobile network in the US. Engadget have unearthed a report from the FCC about the Nexus One passing their tests. The interesting bit here is that it has quad-band GSM support and 1700/1900MHz 3G support, which covers T-Mobile indeed. Top to learn more

Representing the next stage in smartphone development, the unlocked Google Nexus One phone from HTC offers supercharged power with one of the fastest processors currently available in a smartphone, a 3.7-inch super LCD touch display, and access to all your contacts and most important data from a variety of Google tools via the Android 2.1 operating system. With integrated Google technology, the Nexus One brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services millions use every day, including Google Search by Voice, YouTube and Picasa.

The Google Nexus One integrates with all of your favorite Google applications--from e-mail and calendar to Google Voice and YouTube.

The 5-megapixel camera on the back also
captures DVD-quality widescreen video
(see a schematic of all ports and controls).
In addition to 3G connectivity, the Nexus One offers Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g) for accessing home and business networks as well as hotspots while on the go and Bluetooth connectivity for both hands-free devices and stereo music streaming. Other features include assisted GPS (AGPS) with Google Maps Navigation providing turn-by-turn voice guidance, memory expansion via microSD memory cards, threaded messaging for seamless on-the-go conversations, and up to 7 hours of 3G talk time.

Unlocked Phone
The Nexus One is unlocked and will recognize SIM cards from any mobile service provider using the GSM standard. The Nexus One's antenna supports four GSM radio frequencies (850/900/1800/1900) and three 3G/UMTS Bands (2100/AWS/900). These cover most major GSM mobile providers worldwide, including T-Mobile in the United States, but not the 850 MHz 3G band used by AT&T. The Nexus One will, however, deliver 2G/EDGE speeds on these networks, and of course supports Wi-Fi as well.

Nexus One Software Innovation
The Nexus One runs on Android 2.1, a version of the platform's Eclair software, which offers advanced applications and features including:

  • Google Maps Navigation: offering turn-by-turn driving directions with voice output.
  • E-mail: multiple Gmail accounts; universal inbox and Exchange support.
  • Phone book: aggregate contacts from multiple sources, including Facebook.
  • Quick Contacts: easily switch between communication and social applications.
  • Android Market: access to more than 18,000 applications.

  • YouTube: Use the YouTube application to view, search for, upload, and share videos. Like the version you use on your PC, YouTube on the Nexus One presents the videos grouped into categories, such as Most viewed, Most discussed, Most recent, and Top rated. (Learn more)
  • Messaging: You can use Messaging to exchange text (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) with your friends' mobile phones. Touch New message to start a new text or multimedia message, or touch an existing message thread to open it. (Learn more)
  • Music: Use the Music application to listen to and organize audio files you have transferred onto your microSD card from your computer. (Learn more)
  • Maps: With Google Maps on your phone, you can find your current location, view real-time traffic conditions, and get detailed directions by foot, public transportation, or car. You'll also be able to navigate using spoken, turn-by-turn driving instructions as well as switch between viewing a street map or a satellite image. (Learn more)
  • Car Home: Access Google Maps, Navigation, Voice Search, Contacts, and Search with the touch of a button. Car Home opens with five large buttons that you can touch to access applications that are most useful when you're driving. (Learn more)
  • Android Market: With the Android Market, you can browse and search for free and paid applications. Once you find an application you want, you can install it on your phone. (Learn more)

  • Take personalization to the next level. Dynamic, interactive, live wallpapers react to the touch of a finger. And more widgets and five home screen panels allow for further device customization.

  • Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g) for accessing home and corporate networks as well as hotspots while on the go.

Gingerbread OTA Received Immediately
My only reservation in ordering the nexus one was due to the few reviews I had read that describe difficulties with getting the latest version of Android onto the phone. I need not have worried as the update to Gingerbread was already downloading over the air almost as soon as I had switched on the phone.Delivery was preternaturally fast, and the phone works out of the box with my t-mobile prepaid sim. I am able to order their pay as you go daily web pass for data usage via t-mobile's m.web2go.com/myaccount/ page on the phone's browser.I have tried out various smartphones and the nexus one seems to equal or exceed those phones' capabilities. My impression is that the only problem that kept the original 'google phone' from becoming wildly popular was the high price for an unsubsidized, unlocked device. The price now 18 months after the nexus one's launch is phenomenal, considering the phone you are getting for that price.

Amazing Device.
As a phone it has everything it needs to have.As a smartphone lacks some features, but hey! it only costs U$S 260 for year-and-a-half-old model (@ July 2011). If you want more power, more bandwidth, better 3G features, front camera, buy another smartphone... with its U$S 160 to 500 increment ;).The touchscreen works perfectly, no missed calls, no missing files, zero problem. Very recommendable. This review was about the phone not the OS, so the only two things I will say about the OS is the following:1) no trouble upgrading to Android 2.3.4. (Nice and easy: only one touch).2) Take your time navigating Android Market or another application market for Android. Its mindblowing the offer they have for both paid and free applications. 10 points for Android Community!

Good Purchase
I have always had terrible luck applying screen protectors. That is why I typically don't waste my time with them. I didn't expect much for $1.43. Honestly I am impressed. The application only took 30 sec and I had zero bubbles, defects etc. This product works perfect. I honestly could not even tell if it was on my phone or not. Super thin, almost invisible, very cheap and very easy to apply. There is no reason not to buy this product. The Nexus One is a $500+ super phone, so why not spend $1.43 on a screen protector that actually works. Not buying this product is like buying a Bentley and refusing to pay for a car wash.

Very good except for anti-glare
Good: - The protector is semi-rigid which (1) made it much easier to install w/out air bubbles and (2) seems like it will protect the screen very well. - Easy to install once you realize which layer is which. Not super sticky, so can be pulled up and repositioned half way through installation if you get the alignment off. - Been using it for about two weeks now and cannot even tell it's there - No noticeable difference in the capacitive touch screen. - Good fit - finger prints are not as noticableBad: - There is really no anti-glare feature at all. The screen is nearly as glossy as before. - A little tricky to peal off the top layer after installation and I ended up pulling off the whole thing. I couldn't tell at first if the main protector was the rigid piece or the top-most layer. Note that the top layer is very thin and not rigid like the protector itself.

Mixed Opinion
Some of the earlier reviewers have stated that this screen creates a pixellated effect, separating the colors. I believe these individuals may have missed one of the steps in the installation process. Specifically, you must peel off the back and stick the screen in place; then once it is in place, there is a SECOND layer of protective plastic that you must peel off the top surface. If you don't peel off that second layer of plastic, you will see horrible pixellations and moire effects. Furthermore, that second layer of protective plastic scratches easily too. But once you peel that outer layer off, everything is crystal clear and very scratch-resistant.However, I experienced a different problem. As other reviewers have stated, this screen is a stiff plastic with a residue-free silicone adhesive. This means that if your screen has the tiniest, most microscopic spec of dust on the surface, the spec of dust will create a little "bubble area" under the screen about a...

One of the Best
The Otterbox impact case is probably one of the better "rubber" cases out there. It doesn't stick to your pocket lining, it fits the phone exactly. I've bought several rubber and silicone cases since I got the phone, and I was never happy until the Otterbox. All the holes and indentions for the camera and buttons are perfect. On "other" cases, the holes or buttons would be off by a millimeter or so. Also, the rubber makes it stick to my pocket lining like velcro. Lastly, the other cases seem to be soft, meaning that the sides to the left and the right of the screen tend to be loose. I can't say how much I like this case and would highly recommend it.

A Pleasant Surprise!
If you're like me, you're probably concerned about protecting your new Nexus One. I ordered this because it looked like it would provide protection from scratches and might minimize damage if the phone was dropped. Well, I just got this case today and it looks like it will fit that bill quite nicely. With the N1 being so new, I was skeptical about the quality of any accessories that one might buy at this early stage. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The fit is good and the cutouts are accurately sized and placed. In addition, it's thick enough so that the elevated camera lens now sits below the level of the case. As an unexpected bonus, I found that the silicone enhances the grip significantly.Money well spent, even if it's just a short-term solution.

Great case!
I'm very pleased with this case for my new Nexus One. It fits perfectly and has a very pleasant feel, silky without being too slippery. The cutouts are in all the right places and it has raised bumps so you can still hit the unlock button and volume controls. Definitely a good buy for the price.

Excellent phone
(I would expect someone investigating purchasing a cell phone would do some price comparison, $700 for this phone is a bit steep.)The Nexus S is an interesting phone. It is the sequel to Google and HTC's Nexus One (incorrectly regarded as a flop) and like the iPhone 4 it sets the bar for the current generation of smart phones.I bought this phone on its release day, so I am very familiar with what it can do. I came from using a which was another great unlocked phone. But this year alone has seen a lot of improvements in what phones can do.The Nexus S, made by Samsung, is a gorgeous gadget. It is a little underwhelming in person, glossy all-black, but its a sleak package and...

Android Version 2.3 Top to learn more

Get the ultimate Google experience at 3G speeds which pairs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and integrated Google Voice capabilities. A thin-profile contour display gives the Nexus S a unique slim and trim size that fits easily in the palm of your hand, and its brighter, high-contrast screen means colors are incredibly vibrant and text is crisp at any size--even when viewed in bright sunlight.

The Nexus S 3G is packed with the latest technologies (view larger).

The 4-inch Super AMOLED screen with Curved Display (view larger).

The Nexus S is packed with the latest mobile technologies, including a Super AMOLED Contour Display with curved glass screen, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, and Wireless-N Wi-Fi networking plus 3G Mobile Hotspot capability for sharing your 3G connection with up to six Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously. And with support for Near Field Communications (NFC), the Nexus S can read information from "smart" tags, or everyday objects that have NFC chips in them--from stickers and movie posters to t-shirts.

The phone is outfitted with a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera plus a front-facing camera for easy video chats on the go. Other features include assisted GPS (A-GPS) for navigation and location-based services, Bluetooth for hands-free devices and stereo music streaming, haptic feedback vibration, access to both personal and corporate e-mail, and up to 6 hours of talk time. And with the Nexus S, you'll always be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available.

Google Voice Integration

With Google Voice, your phone number is more than just 10 digits--it's the main hub of your voice communications. You get one number that rings all your phones--up to six different phones--with intelligent call routing and advanced features like call screening, blocking, and recording. You also get transcribed voicemail that's sent to you via email and/or text message, low-priced international calling, custom voicemail greeting capabilities, and more.

Android, 2.3 (Gingerbread) Platform

The Nexus S 3G runs the Android 2.3 platform (dubbed "Gingerbread")--the fastest version of Android available for smartphones yet. It features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation. Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming email and then switch back to the game without losing your place.

A new onscreen keyboard makes it easier to type thanks to additional spacing between the keys and larger font sizes. And the more you use the keyboard, the easier typing will be as the enhanced suggest feature records previous input history to make better suggestions.

Voice Actions.

With Voice Actions for Android, you can press and hold the Search button from anywhere and speak almost anything--text messages and emails, navigation direction queries, opening web pages, and more. And like the previous version of Android ("Froyo"), Gingerbread provides support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full Web.

The Nexus S 3G also brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services you use every day, including Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps with Navigation, Google Calendar, Picasa, and YouTube. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

Near-Field Communications

An NFC Reader application lets your read and interact with near-field communication (NFC) tags. For example, you can "touch" or "swipe" an NFC tag that might be embedded in a poster, sticker, or advertisement, then act on the data read from the tag. A typical use would be to read a tag at a restaurant, store, or event and then rate or register by jumping to a web site whose URL is included in the tag data.

it is not US, it is not Super AMOLED, it is not i9020
I bought it just 2 weeks ago.I bought it especially for its Super AMOLED screen. But you should know that before buying:There is actually 2 kinds of Nexus S:i9020 (i9020a i9020t) and i9023i9023 is the european version or non-USA/UK version. It has S-LCD screen. Worse colors, worse black.google it and check example photos (I found some on flickr)Super LCD variant is unable to display black color, it's just dark grey. More vivid colors are provided by Super AMOLED screen of i9020 variant. As far as I know, this is the only difference. If you want to root your phone, it is important again.Apart that,This is another perfect phone by Google (despite Samsung).

Where Can I buy Nexus One

My dad adviced me not to buy teh Nintendo DSi because he said that I will get bored of it again and wants to return it. I also want to buy the Nintendo DSi because I am the only one in my classroom who does not have a Nintendo DS system. Everybody says that it is weird if I do not have a Nintendo DS yet system, but one of my friends got the Nintendo DS since the day it came out and had not touched it since then, I told him my story about returning it a lot , and he said that just... If I buy The Nexus One, I will have to buy it unlocked because I am not on AT T or Verizon, but because I am on the T-Mobile Even More Plus plan. Best answer: Answer by Charley Bobert I did read the WHOLE THING and i definitely do not think you should buy the dsi xl. I also got extremely bored with my ds lite and feel no urge to get the dsi or xl. 360s are always fun but if you are not... Which Should I Buy Two, Nintendo DS Lite, Nexus One, or Xbox 360 Elite. I think the Nexus One looks cool but, I mean, if you have the my touch or something just keep it. If you have an Ipod touch and a nice phone definitely do not get the Nexus. I do not have a regular Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite or Nintendo DSi. The Nintendo DSi is shipping to stores on March 28th and has a 93% larger screen Which are one of the reasons why I want to buy it, and I have no problem with the money because it costs only $ 189. The Nexus One, Nintendo DSi, or Xbox 360 Elite. One extra device (the iPod touch) is worth all of the games you would get with the Nexus.

Perhaps the thinking is that Google could sell Motorola’s handset division – factories and day-to-day operations included – to Huawei, a deep-pocketed Chinese manufacturer, and retain Motorola’s patent portfolio. Dennis Berman writes in the Wall Street Journal that Google is unsure of what step it will take with Motorola, the “once-great, now-faltering” company Google acquired last August for $12 billion. But Google typically doesn’t do things for the short term, and Motorola could be a long-term safety net to maintain Android, says Berman. But unlike the product you and I are likely to buy and sell months later, which would be in the hundreds or thousands, Google’s purchase would be in the billions. The deal was originally viewed as a patent grab in order to better protect Android smartphone makers, but it also raised issues about how the same manufacturers Google sought to protect would feel knowing that Android’s chief organizer now had its... Huawei wants consumers to know the name Huawei, and it has been working hard to introduce top of the line products to raise awareness in the western world. Berman suggests that Google doesn’t want to create problems with its Android partners and will look to offload the Motorola hardware division as a result. Nothing in tech surprises me anymore, so what if Google really has considered selling Motorola’s handset division to Huawei. Any purchase by Huawei seems unlikely unless it includes those patents – especially when you consider that Huawei could be a target for litigation from Microsoft.
